Ducks and stuffSaturday, September 4Ok time to blog...so China was awesome. It was a great experience going back and seeing all the changes and the people. It was my mom, sister, and me, and we stayed in this apartment that my lao ye (grandpa, mom's dad) owned. It was a pretty big place, and my aunt was there most of the time helping us out. Showering was pretty interesting, as we had to stand in a large bucket and then pour the water out into these other buckets when we were done, to be used to flush the toilet. The last person to shower had to yell for someone to turn off the water heater when they were almost done showering and wait for the water to turn cold before turning it off, so hot water would not be wasted. But enough about showers...we saw all the major tourist places and stuff. We would go in the morning and try not to be out in the afternoon if we could help it. It was so incredibly hot and muggy most of the time we were there, so we took like 2-3 showers everyday. Oops more shower talk. I shall try to refrain. An important part of the trip was visiting lao ye's grave. It's a really beautiful and peaceful area outside Beijing, and I'm glad I got to visit it.A funny thing about China- you know how here in America everyone is crazy about being tan? Like there are tanning salons everywhere and all these products to make you have a real-looking tan without being in the sun. Well in China there are lots of beauty products to make you white! Companies like Olay have all these lotions and stuff guaranteed to make you a few shades whiter in like 28 days. It's pretty weird. Since the Chinese love food and being white, in the various commercials I have seen newly white skin compared to peaches, tofu, lychee, and milk. We also got to watch the Asian Cup for soccer, with the final game between China and Japan. Japan won because the Chinese soccer team is an infamously spoiled group of brats. There's so much more I could say about my trip...I loved being in Beijing, but it's still nice to be back in the comforts of the U.S. I moved back to school last Sunday, into my awesome brand-new dorm. My classes seem interesting. This is going to be another great year! Yahooo...ok enough blogging. Adios! |
